Children & Parents

Draft: this page is under legal review and is not yet in force.

Revizona helps students practise for Cambridge IGCSE, A Level and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams. Most of our students are teenagers, so we have built Revizona to be safe and private by design, following the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code (the “Children’s Code”). This page explains how it works for families. The full legal detail is in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

For parents and guardians

Minimum age

Students must be at least 13 to have a Revizona account. Children under 13 cannot register. If we find out that a child under 13 has an account, we close it and delete their data.

Anyone can read our free revision guides on the blog without an account.

The parent’s role (students aged 13 to 17)

Students aged 13 to 17 can use Revizona, but a parent or guardian must buy the subscription and agree to our Terms of Service for them. This is because contracts made by under-18s are not reliably binding in England and Wales, so the agreement is between you and us. [CONFIRM: parent sign-up flow at launch]

  1. The student signs up. They enter their name, email address, date of birth and your email address.
  2. We email you. The email explains what Revizona is, what data we collect about your child and why, and links to this page and our Privacy Policy.
  3. You set up the subscription. You create or sign in to a parent account, agree to the Terms and pay. We record the date, time and what you agreed to.
  4. The account is activated. We tell you and your child by email. Your parent account is now linked to your child’s account [CONFIRM: parent dashboard features available at launch].

If nobody completes this within 14 days, we delete the pending sign-up. If you did not expect our email, simply ignore it, or tell us at [email protected] and we will delete the request straight away.

What data we collect about your child, and why

We keep this to the minimum we need.

What Why
Name, email address, date of birth, country To create the account, check the age rules and send essential service emails
Exam board and subjects To show the right questions
Answers, marks, feedback and progress To mark answers, explain mistakes and show progress to your child and you
Basic technical data (such as IP address and browser type) To keep the site working and secure
Your own name, email address and record of your agreement (and payment details through our payment provider) To link your account, contact you and manage the subscription

We do not collect your child’s precise location, photos of them, contacts, or any data from social media. Please encourage your child not to put personal details in their answers.

AI marking

Revizona uses an AI model to help mark written answers. The AI provider receives the question, the mark scheme and your child’s answer, but not their name or email, and our contract does not allow it to train its models on this data. We do not use your child’s answers to train AI models ourselves; if that ever changes, we will ask for your separate consent first. AI marks are estimates for practice only. They are not official results and do not predict grades. You or your child can ask a person to check any mark using “report a mark” in the app. Read more in AI Marking.

What you can see and do

From your parent account, or by emailing [email protected], you can:

  • View progress: see your child’s marks, topic mastery and practice history.
  • Cancel or close: cancel the subscription or close your child’s account at any time. When an account is closed we delete the data within 30 days (backup copies are overwritten within a further 35 days), except records we must keep by law, such as payment records.
  • Help with data requests: ask for a copy of your child’s data, or ask us to correct or delete it.

Your child has their own data rights too and can make these requests themselves. We act on a parent’s request where that is appropriate, for example where your child agrees or it is clearly in their best interests. We respond within one month and may ask you to confirm your identity first.

Safety by design

We have made deliberate choices to keep students safe:

  • No chat or messaging. Students cannot see or contact each other, and nobody can message them on Revizona.
  • No public profiles. Nothing a student does is shown publicly. There are no public leaderboards with names.
  • No user-generated public content. Students cannot post comments or upload content that others see.
  • No ads. We do not show advertising and we do not sell data.
  • No profiling. We do not build profiles of students for marketing or advertising.
  • No geolocation. We do not track where your child is.
  • No nudges. We do not use streak pressure, countdowns or other tricks to push children to spend more time or money, or to share more data. Study reminders are off by default for under-18s.
  • Clear AI disclosure. We tell students when AI has marked an answer [CONFIRM: AI label shown in the app].
  • Content checks. Our questions and explanations are written or checked for an educational audience. AI feedback is instructed to stay on the question and mark scheme, and we use safety filters, but no filter is perfect, so please report anything that worries you.
  • High privacy by default. Every under-18 account starts with the most private settings.

Reporting a problem

If you are worried about anything, such as content that seems inappropriate, a security concern, an account you did not set up, or misuse of your child’s data, please tell us:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • In the app: use “Report a problem”, or “report a mark” on any marked answer [CONFIRM: in-app reporting available at launch].
  • Post: Revizona Ltd, [REGISTERED OFFICE ADDRESS]

We acknowledge safety reports within 24 hours, including at weekends, and act on urgent safety concerns as a priority. If we believe a child is at risk of harm, we may contact the relevant authorities. For other complaints, see our Complaints page. For data protection concerns, contact our Data Protection Officer at [email protected]; if you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).

Paying for a subscription

Revizona’s paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. Prices include VAT where it applies [CONFIRM: currency(ies) and VAT treatment with accountant]. When you buy a subscription:

  • the payment is taken by our payment provider, [PAYMENT PROVIDER]; we never see or store full card numbers;
  • we remind you before renewals of plans of 3 months or longer, at least every 6 months for monthly plans, and before any price change, so you have time to cancel;
  • you can cancel online at any time in a few clicks, and access continues until the end of the period you have paid for;
  • you have a 14-day right to cancel your first purchase under UK consumer law, and may be entitled to a refund in other cases. See Subscriptions & Refunds for the full rules.

When your child turns 18

When a student turns 18, the account becomes theirs alone. We email both of you beforehand. From their 18th birthday, your parent access ends and your child manages their own data and settings. If you pay for the subscription, it continues until one of you changes or cancels it.

For students: the short version

This part is for you, in simple words.

  • You need to be 13 or older. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian has to set up and pay for your subscription.
  • We only collect what we need: your name, email, age, subjects, and your answers and marks. We use it to mark your work and show your progress.
  • Your parent or guardian can see your progress while you are under 18. They can also cancel the subscription or close your account.
  • Nobody can message you on Revizona. There is no chat and no public profile, and other students cannot see you.
  • No ads. We don’t sell your data. We don’t track where you are.
  • AI helps mark some answers. It doesn’t see your name. It can make mistakes, so if a mark looks wrong, tap “report a mark” and a person will check it.
  • Don’t put personal information in your answers, like your address or phone number.
  • You have rights too. You can ask to see, download, fix or delete your data yourself. Email [email protected].
  • If something feels wrong or worries you, tell a parent, guardian or teacher, and tell us at [email protected] or with “Report a problem”.
  • When you turn 18, your account is fully yours.
